Wisconsin Vacation

Join the Wisconsin Travel Guide - fishing Challenge: One of the Wisconsin tourism bragging points is the geography that they have Lake Michigan and the tributaries that feed from it bringing the sport fish from the deep waters of the lake to the warmer areas of the streams inland. Here you can try your skill at snagging the "rainbow trout" that has been increasing to huge lengths in the depths of Lake Michigan. It isn't hard; it is more similar to hunting and fishing combined than simply stream hunting in a country area in the midwest.

One of the most thrilling is sports fishing in Northern Wisconsin Attractions . The steelheads are thought to be shy when they come into the warm waters to spawn. They are comfortable with the depth and safety of the large lake but it is necessary to come into the rivers to breed. Sports fish are hard to catch because of their being leery. You will have to be quick to move noiselessly and slowly and with focus to have them take the hook.

Just 2 of the strains are found in the Ganaraska and the Chambers Creek tributaries. These two have later winter/early spring spawns that typically begin between late February and -April. From time to time the spawns are later depending on how soon it starts to warm up. At the first warming the fish will begin to arrive.

You get your hook as close to the bottom of the tributary as you can. You use a bobber to hold it just off the bottom and raise it toward the face of the Steelhead (if visible or by luck if not). WhenIf the steelhead bites the hook be prepared to run with it for a while since it will take off. The fish is heavier than you probably have thought it should be and if you aren't lucky it will take your line, break it and be gone. A eighteen pound trout can break a ten lb. line pretty quickly unless you are ready to run with it until you can get enough drag on the reel to tire it out.

Wisconsin has many Lake Michigan tributary streams that engage excellent steelhead runs. The most experienced streams for steelhead fishing around Lake Michigan include the Kewaunee, Root, Oconto, Manitowoc, Menominee, Milwaukee, East Twin, Peshtigo, Ahnapee, and West Twin rivers. Smaller steelhead streams include the Pigeon, Little, Pike, Menomonee, and Kinnickinnic rivers; Stony, Oak, Heins, Sauk, Whitefish Bay, Fischer, Silver, and Reibolts creeks.

So grab your fly rod, get in the car and come to Wisconsin for all of the best Central Wisconsin tourism experiences. The trout are waiting, the families are friendly and the country is beautiful.
