Electronic fish finders have become so affordable that every angler can hook this great device. Fish finders take the guesswork out of finding where all the prime fishes may be hiding. The Humminbird fish finders are one of the most popular brands on the market today. They have compact, durable designs that make them ideal for even small boats. In this article, we'll look at how this handy device can help you finally get a trophy catch to brag about.

Some models of Humminbird fishfinders are small enough and light enough to be used in small watercraft like speedboats canoes, and even inflatable boats. The key to the effectiveness of a fish finder sonar device is the transducer housing. This is what emits the sonar signal in a cone shape and transmits the information back to the screen where you can see it. By bouncing a sonar signal, you'll be able to see fish, weeds and underwater structures. The smaller Humminbird models have transducers attached to a suction cup that will adhere to any material. This fish finder uses a dual beam sonar. One beam is a 60 degree beam to find the fish and the other is a 20 degree beam to accurately display the bottom and structure.

For those purchasing Humminbird fish finders for larger boats, where to mount the components is important to ensure the best performance. Most fish finders come with a standard mounting bracket and transom mounting transducers. Ideally, it should be mounted somewhere convenient and accessible, like near the steering wheel. The transducer is mounted on the transom in a spot where it will be submerged both at low speeds and high speeds so that the sonar signal can do its depth finder job and scan the water even while you're moving.

Operating Humminbird fishfinders is as easy as pushing a button. After turning on the device, digital readings will appear on the screen. Depending on which model Humminbird you have, these could represent depth, water temperature and boat speed. The line across the bottom of the screen represents the floor of the lake, river or reservoir. The undulations on the screen mirror the terrain on the bottom. A thick, dark line represents a hard bottom, while a thin, light line indicates a soft bottom. Fish will appear as arches or fish icons.

Durability is the hallmark of Humminbird products. All of their fish finders are made with hard plastic that can withstand tough elements and wear and tear. To prevent water damage, some lines of Hummingbird fish finders have stretch neoprene covers. Humminbird also makes other fish finder accessories as well, such as protective cases designed to cover the mounting assembly of the unit. These and other accessories can be found on the company's web site. Reputation means a lot to Humminbird, and they've worked hard to earn theirs. You can count on an effective fishing tool when you choose Humminbird fish finders.

plastic weedless bass spoons

No Exit Popup Old School Bass fishing Secrets Course

A weedless spoon can be a very effective method to catch largemouth bass under certain conditions. If bass are holding tight in dense weed beds using weedless spoons is a very effective way to catch largemouth bass. Weedless spoons used to be a very popular way to catch bass but nowadays they are only used when bat fishing for large mouth bass in heavy vegetation or brush cover.

Weedless spoons are made of metal or plastic and both are very effective but react differently when retrieved through he water. For example metal spoons work better if you intend to fan cast an area because they can be cast much further then plastic bass spoons. The metal spoons are only used if you intend to bait fish for bass sub – surface because metal spoons will sink rapidly after casting them. In order to go bait fishing with metal spoons effectively they must be retrieved faster then plastic bass spoons. Unfortunately one draw back to metal spoons is that largemouth bass tend to strike them short, by only hitting the trailing plastics attached to the bass lure. To fix this problem only set the hook after you feel the weight of the bass on your line.

If you plan to fish the top of weed beds or brush then plastic spoons work much better the metal spoons, because they do not sink as fast as the metal spoon. Also plastic spoons are virtually weedless because the hook is always facing upward when these spoons are retrieved through the water.

To fish a skitter and drop retrieve make a long cast and start your fast retrieve with your rod tip pointing in a upward position, before the weedless spoon has a chance to sink. Retrieve fast enough to see the spoon skipping across the top of the surface or just below. When you start to pass over a pocket in the weed bed stop your retrieve and allow the spoon to sink into the pocket. If a largemouth bass is following you spoon it will probably strike your bass spoon as soon as it starts to drop so be ready.

largemouth bass artificial baits

No Exit Popup Old School Bass fishing Secrets Course

Soft plastics ar by far the most popular largemouth bass baits used by bass fisherman nationwide. Soft plastic large mouth bass lures are as close to natural bass baits that you can get. They look and feel like real largemouth bass food when bass hit your bait.

They can be rigged so the hook is imbedded in the plastic so you can fish dense cover, common when you are using Texas bass fishing rigs, or with what is know as a Carolina bass fishing rig, where the hook or hooks are exposed. Carolina large mouth bass fishing rigs are normally fished on a clean bottom, and used in thick cover because of the exposed hooks. The Carolina rig is very enticing to large mouth bass because of how the fishing rig is designed. A slip sinker is attached well up your fishing line and when lowered through the water the soft plastic fishing lure seems to almost float and flutter because it is dropping through the water much slower then the slip sinker which attracts the large month bass.

Another popular way to fish soft plastics is by using a small jig head. This methods of fishing for bass is intended for a very slow largemouth bass bait fishing presentation. Fishing with soft plastic fishing lures and a jig head works great for known largemouth bass habitat locations but is not a good fishing method if you intended to fish news bass fishing waters. Soft plastic bass baits work well in cold water so spring and early summer are the best time of the year to use them. We are going to describe in the last three paragraphs how to make a Texas large mouth bass fishing rig, and a simple Carolina largemouth bass fishing rig.

To make a Texas bass fishing rig you will need the following fishing tackle. Start by pushing the thin tip end of a bullet sinker up your line first, then tie on a offset nightcrawler hook. Next push your soft plastic bass fishing bait on to your offset starting about 3/8” inch from the fat end of the soft plastic bait, and bring the hook out the side. Then twist the hook 180 degrees and push the hook back into the soft plastic bass bait deep enough to almost penetrate the other side but not pushing through.

To make a simple Carolina bass fish rig that has a strait hook you will need to start with the following fishing tackle. You will need a strait bass fishing hook, brass sinker, two way swivel, and a shinny bead. The brass sinker and the glass bead are used to create a “clinking” noise when falling through the water. This noise attracts the largemouth bass. Slide the brass sinker up the line with the pointed end going on first. Next slide the bead up the line., then tie the two way swivel on the line . Next tie on a 12” leader that already has a bass fishing hook attached on one end to the open eye of the two way swivel. Then push a soft plastic bass bait such as what is called acurley tai l worm about 3/8” from the top of the fat end of the soft plastic bass bait.

One popular largemouth bass bait fishing technique that thousands of bass fisherman use every year is fishing with top water lures and plugs. These bass baits catch largemouth bass by the hundreds every year.

Some of the most popular top water bass baits include bass buzz baits, snag proof top water imitation frogs bass baits, bass chugger baits, bass stick baits, bass jitter bug baits, and bass prop baits.

Largemouth bass buzz baits have a very large blade that spins and planes water out to both sides of the lure. Buzz baits need to be retrieved slowly and steadily, but do not stop reeling because they will sink. Frogs and soft rubber or plastic rats need to have hooks that are weed less for fishing on top of heavy weed cover.

Stick baits are long, thin plugs that are weighted on the tail end The weighted end gives the top water plug a side to side motion. Prop baits look exactly like stick baits except they either have a propeller on one end or both. You fish bass prop baits by with twitches and then a pause, twitches and then a pause.

Chuggers have a concave or flat face that when you jerk it through eh water it will splash on both sides of the lure. Bass chuggers are typically fished with a series of quick twitches.

Jitterbug largemouth bass bait fishing plugs have a very wide face plate or arm that will make the bass bait wobble and crawl through he water. You will want to fish a jitterbug bass bait by using a slow and a steady retrieve.

There are many popular top water retrieves that work well when fishing top water bass baits. You can use the twitch and pause technique which works best when fishing prop baits and chuggers. Chuggers can also be fished using a series of twitches with no pause in between. To retrieve a bass stick bait hold your rod low then give the bass bait a series of evenly spaced jerks that make the bait’s head swing back and forth through the water. shiners

No Exit Popup Old School Crappie fishing Course Link

crappie are one of the most plentiful gamefish that are stocked in all the lower 48 states and they go by many aliases such as calico crappie, speckled perch, speckled bass, white perch, pole crappies, strawberry bass, and papermouths. When the water temperature starts to warm slightly above more the 50 degrees farenheight it is time to get your crappie live baits and other crappie baits ready for the upcoming spring season of crappie fishing.

Paper Mouths will start their annual migration from their coldwater locations to key new foraging locations. In the north this early spring period will sart right after ice out and actually the temperature of the water will be in the high 30’s. and the month of the year normally will be sometime in March to Early April. In the south, speckled bass move from deep water when the temperature rises above 40 degrees to coves, and back ends of creeks, about the end of February to the end of march.

During this early spring period crappies are hungry and ready to feed. Remember though the water is still cold so you need to work your crappie baits slowly. Some very good crappie live baits to use are crappie minnows, shiners, small creek chubs, small gizzard shad, small threadfin shad, and small crayfish. You can catch crappie at this time a year in the southern regions using crappie jigs and plastics or crappie jig, live bait combinations in broad feed creeks, where the water warms faster. Channel bends with stumps will often hold speckled perch at this time of year also.

Papermouths in large lakes and reservoirs will stage and suspend over deep water 20 to 40 feet deep usually just beyond the first drop of leading into the shallow zones they will be using for their annual spawn. In most reservoirs the strawberry bass will normally stage in creek arms so if you are going to be bait fishing for crappie in the early spring period you will want to use large crappie jigs to do your crappie fishing using large crappie minnows and shiners.

In small lakes and ponds pole crappies will suspend over the deepest holes waiting to go to shallow water for the annual spawn. So an ideal way to catch crappie in these waters is by using a slip bobber crappie fishing rig  with a crappie jig head tipped with large crappie minnows and shiners. Also small crayfish will work. You will need to adjust your depth until you start catching crappie. The reason you want to use larger crappie live baits at this time of year is because you need to math the natural forage that the speckled bass is feeding on at this time of year. The speckled bass are feeding on what was left of the natural bait fish from
the previous year because the bait fish have not spawned yet so there will be no fry at this time of year.

Well that concludes my article about Papermouths. We wish you the best of luck on your next fishing trip!
