Perhaps the movie making industry will be forced to concentrate on quality, not marketability, for a change. Making movies, is one thing; making money is another. Vincent van Gogh died a pauper, as did Mozart and many other fine artists. Some of the best movies ever made have been produced on a shoe-string budget with the passion of the director and the actors eventually showing through. When movies are made for the sake of good art and not for the sake of high profits, there is hope for all.

Star-light Cannes feels pinch, early films shine
By Mike Collett-White

CANNES, France (Reuters) - Light on A-list stars, extravagant parties and celebrity stunts, this year's Cannes film festival has not escaped the global economic downturn.
That, many say, has been a blessing in disguise, allowing thousands of reporters, executives and Hollywood hopefuls in the French Riviera resort to concentrate on the movies themselves rather than the off-screen distractions.
Reaction to the 20-strong competition has been positive as Cannes hit the halfway stage on Monday, with a French prison drama, Jane Campion's take on John Keats and Ken Loach's picture headlined by soccer star Eric Cantona tipped as the early favorites for the coveted Palme d'Or.
And while there has been little buzz along the palm-lined Croisette waterfront, where Cannes' late-night revelry is concentrated, Danish director Lars von Trier has got people talking with a movie that shocked and offended many who saw it.
"Antichrist," a sexually charged and violent horror starring Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg as a grieving couple, has stirred the kind of controversy Cannes organizers may welcome.
"Overall it's a good Cannes so far," said film critic and author Mark Cousins, who defended von Trier for making a movie that he found innovative and surprising.
Whether a coincidence or a conscious decision by Hollywood studios to cut back on expensive outlays in Cannes, there have been noticeably fewer stars on the red carpet this year.
"When Mariah Carey is the biggest star by the end of week one, you know you're in trouble," said one seasoned television producer, bemoaning the lack of celebrity wattage.
That said, Brad Pitt is expected with Quentin Tarantino's World War Two film "Inglourious Basterds," and Penelope Cruz is in Cannes for Pedro Almodovar's "Broken Embraces."
Paris Hilton reportedly flew into the festival and "Twilight" heartthrob Robert Pattinson appears on Tuesday.
While business on the market has been affected by the financial crisis, deals are still being made, champagne is flowing on board giant yachts moored off the harbor and wannabe directors and actors continue to look for their big break.
HITS AND MISSES
"A Prophet," directed by Jacques Audiard, is currently the frontrunner for the Golden Palm for best film awarded at the weekend, raising the possibility of two French winners in two years after "Entre Les Murs" (The Class), triumphed in 2008.
A Prophet stars Tahar Rahim as a young convict who must use his wits to survive in prison where he seeks to play one gang off against another. The film, according to trade publication Variety, "hit the Croisette like a thunderbolt."
Close behind in Screen International's survey of critics is New Zealand-born Campion's "Bright Star," about the affair between poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne. Campion is still the only woman to have won the Palme d'Or with "The Piano" in 1993.
British film maker Ken Loach's "Looking for Eric" was cheered at a press screening on Monday, and compatriot Andrea Arnold won broad praise for her drama "Fish Tank."
Asian directors Park Chan-Wook ("Thirst"), Johnnie To ("Vengeance") and Lou Ye ("Spring Fever") fared less well.
Ang Lee's "Taking Woodstock," about the legendary 1969 rock festival, was welcomed for its celebration of innocence, but critics agreed it was too superficial to trouble the jury.
Two films have bombed.
Filipino Brillante Mendoza's "Kinatay," about a criminology student who witnesses a brutal rape and torture, drew mostly negative reviews, while von Trier, winner of the Palme d'Or in 2000, had audiences dropping their jaws with Antichrist.
The movie's graphic scenes of sex, violence and self-mutilation drew gasps at a press screening, derisive laughter broke out at key moments and a smattering of applause at the end was drowned out by booing.

So I started writing this story so can you please tell me what you think? Yeah, I'm only 11....

Vanessa watched as the grumbles ran past her. She stayed unnoticed by the small dwarf like creatures. Where was she supposed to go? How was she supposed to survive in this place? She barely understood it, barely knew the creatures of this world, and barely even knew how she had made it through all this time! Vanessa wiped the sweat off her forehead, hoping she didn’t smell like…human? The demonic creatures would smell her “scent” and hunt her down. She’d be dead meat. Vanessa searched the dusty floor of the forest, looking for a pile of mud. Finally she spotted one, down by the stream. Unfortunately to reach the mud, she would have to pass by the trail. The bare, empty trail. Where almost every creature of this world could see her. Vanessa sighed and crawled along the edges of the bushes, hoping not to disrupt them. Vanessa had to watch her step, if she stepped on a root of the bushes, they would complain and the whole forest would hear this and…who knows what would happen. Something bad was all she knew. She had reached the trail. The bare trail that sent shivers down her spine. Vanessa looked both ways, as if she were about to cross a road. Nobody, nothing was there, watching her. Vanessa took a deep breath and raced through the trail, her hair flying back as she ran across the forest floor. Vanessa dove into the stream, knowing that it would be silent. Of all the living nature “things” in this world, Vanessa liked the stream the best. They seemed to always keep quiet and were so gentle, unlike their cousins, oceans, seas, and rapids. Bubbles burst out of Vanessa’s mouth as she held her breath underneath water. Suddenly she heard giggles, they echoed in her ears, faintly at first but became louder and louder. She swung her head, hoping to shake the tiny, silvery fish that were swimming about her ear out. Vanessa burst out of the water, gasping for air, panting. She looked about, had anybody or anything heard her? Did they see her? Vanessa stared at the bushes, dazed. Her hair was wet and dripping onto her face, half of her body was still in the water the rest was soaked. Then it came to her. The reason she had come all this way, without backing down. She was here to find her sister and best friends. They had all come to this world together, but they had been separated. Vanessa shuddered at the memory of her and her sister and friends lost in the woods, fighting over which way to go, cold, hungry and desperate. Where were they now? She had no clue, but she was certain that they were still alive. She had no clue who she was following, but she knew it was someone she knew. Someone who had been with her when they had been exposed to this world. She had found the bracelet she had given to everyone close to her on the ground a few days before. This was her only evidence of someone she knew was along this trail. Hopefully she wasn’t on the wrong one…

In May 2010, Hardy & Greys Ltd. publicised a cutting-edge new progression in fly fishing rod technology that is ready to revolutionise the industry and also the hobby itself. You may recall that Hardy, a respected fly fishing tackle supplier in the UK, was the company that brought in carbon fibre technologies to fishing rods. All right, it seems as though they have done it yet again using a component referred to as SINTRIX™. Intrigued? To be honest so was I. Keep reading to determine what I've discovered up to now in regards to this cutting edge fly fishing tackle technology.

What exactly is SINTRIX™

SINTRIX™ is a truncated acronym for "silica nano matrix." It's a cutting-edge resin formulation made for carbon fibre rods. This resin strengthens the rod blank in such a way that the chance of splitting is just about impossible and destruction is really unlikely. In the process of development, Hardy examined SINTRIX™ rods on a jig that more or less bent them in two without breakage. This substance is 60% stronger than traditional carbon fibre while being about 30% less heavy. Astonishing! While at first confined to Hardy's fly rod line, the business plans to bring in SINTRIX™ technology to its coarse, carp, and sea collections as well, including the brands Chub and Greys. SINTRIX™ rods are likely to launch early in 2011.

Fly Fishing Tackle -The Issue with Current Carbon Fibre Rod Solutions

When carbon fibre fly rods were first obtainable, they altered the technique of how we fished. Fishermen deserted other styles of fishing rods and supported carbon fibre rods in massive numbers. Over time, though, we figured out that these types of rods, even though they include many advantages, are susceptible to damage. In the same way carbon rod technology replaced fibreglass rod technology, I expect that SINTRIX™ rods could make sizeable inroads against rods manufactured with carbon fibre. Carbon fibre rods have resin that surrounds the carbon. The resin is there to keep the fibres parallel to one another, which subsequently allows the rod flex. But, if a carbon fibre rod is forced to flex beyond a certain boundary, the resin will be unsuccessful, inducing the rod to split. This is because the carbon fibre is naturally tougher than conventional resins.

The Solution? SINTRIX™ Rods

SINTRIX™ rod technology employs a fortified resin matrix that's enhanced to provide superior strength to the carbon fibres. Hardy & Greys Ltd. have made a special form of silica nano sphere and blended it into the resin of SINTRIX™ rods. The effect? A rod where the carbon fibre is far better supported and reinforced. To the fisherman, this implies that the rod allows a remarkably even cast. A SINTRIX™ has excellent tensile durability that lets it bend to a larger degree as opposed to other rods without having damage. SINTRIX™ rods likewise resist incidental deterioration better. Created to support a mass from 5 to 250 lbs., these types of rods are envisioned to induce sweeping change in the way we fish. I look forward anxiously to acquiring my first SINTRIX™ rod, which I'm certain is going to be a great component to my fly fishing tackle series.
